Screening For Life

Getting screened for cancer regularly is the best way to find it early, before you have any symptoms and when treatment is likely to work best. Alberta currently has provincial screening programs for breast, cervical and colorectal cancer.

Screening Programs and Screening for Life transitioned from Alberta Health Services (AHS) to Primary Care Alberta (PCA) in 2025. Some materials will still have AHS branding and language as the transition is finalized.

Breast Screening

Regular screening mammograms are the best way to find breast cancer early, when treatment may work better.

Cervical
Cervical Screening

Up to 90% of cervical cancer can be prevented when women have regular cervical cancer screening and follow-up on any abnormal results.

Colorectal
Colorectal Screening

Regular screening with FIT or colonoscopy can prevent and detect colorectal cancer at its early stages when treatment is more effective.
Lung
Lung Screening

Regular screening can lower your risk of dying from lung cancer by at least 25%. The Alberta Lung Cancer Screening Program (ALCSP) is accepting new participants.
Other Cancers
Other Cancers

While Alberta doesn't have other provincial cancer screening programs, screening for other cancers may be beneficial on an individual level.
